BURN INJURY
There are three stages of burn injuries: First, Second, and Third Degree burns which range from mild burns to life threatening burns, respectively. More than one million burn injuries require medical assistance in the United States, 45,000 are hospitalized, and 4,000 die, says the American Burn Association. First Degree Burn: Minor damage on outer layer of the skin. The burn usually induces pain, and the skin oftentimes will be dry, swollen, and red. This kind of burn usually heals on its own and can be taken care of in one's own home, or location of injury. Second Degree Burn: These burns damage the two outer layers of the skin. This is very painful, and usually the skin will bubble and/or blister. Unlike first degree burns, a second degree burn is moist, but still red and swollen, and oftentimes scarring will result from a second degree burn. This kind of burn also usually heals on its own and can be taken care of in one's own home, or location of injury.
Third Degree Burn: All layers of the skin are damaged, and sometimes even bone, muscle, and fat tissue, depending on the sensitivity and density of the skin. Nerve endings are severed, so initially, little or no pain is felt with a third degree burn. The skin is usually leathery after a third degree burn. These burns require medical attention, and if the burn has affected more than 10% of a child's or 15‑20% of an adult's body, then this is considered a major injury and hospitalization is needed. There are various types of burn injuries which can lead to dehydration, death, amputation, an inability for the skin to grow (skin grafts), disfigurement, scarring, loss of physical attributes, loss of sense of touch, loss of perspiration, depression, etc.
Causes of Burn injuries include thermal burns, radiation, chemical and inhalation burns. Yet the most common burn injuries usually result from hot and flammable liquids and fire.
If you think you or a loved one has experienced a wrongful serious burn injury and feel you need to be compensated for your pain and suffering, please read the section on “Personal Injuries"or proceed directly to submit your case.
