BRAIN INJURY

There are two main kinds of brain injury: traumatic and acquired.

Traumatic Brain Injury is usually associated with an outside force to the head, strong enough to move the brain inside the skull, ultimately wounding the brain. These forces can be blows to the head, oftentimes a result of a car accident, physical violence, sports injury, firearms, etc. Another force is the rapid movement of a person’s head, usually a result of car accidents, or physical violence, as seen in instances of Shaken Baby’s Syndrome.

Acquired Brain Injury is usually the result of changes in neuronal activity in the brain, changing the capacity of the cell. This leads to changes and impairments in many areas from cognition to memory to speech‑language communication to physical functions and more. Causes of acquired brain injury include near‑drowning, electrical shock, trauma to the head, heart attack, stroke, infection disease, meningitis, toxic exposure and more.
